Most people associate the other-worldly sound of a theremin with vintage science fiction / horror movies, or bands such as Man or Astro Man that utilized the instrument in their musical mix. Invented in the 1920's (it is widely considered to be the world's first synthesizer) the theremin still seems futuristic today and is used in commercial audio & films as well. This electronic instrument is a bit unusual in that it is played by moving your hand near the antenna without actually coming in contact with the theremin itself.

This listing is for one completely assembled "plug and play" Theremaniacs Theremin! Theremin plugs into an amplifier with a standard 1/4 inch guitar cord. It will sit quietly until your hand is about three feet away. As your hand comes nearer to the antenna, the pitch gradually becomes higher until it is inaudible. Covers 7 octaves - from soaring high notes through great growling lows.
Theremin is powered by a quality 9 volt alkaline (included). AC adapters will add hum and instability so we only use pure DC battery power! . One alkaline battery will last about 500 hours (several years of average use) and is easy to replace. The sound does not suffer as battery power is consumed during use. Draws only 3 milliamps far less than any effects pedal. Set it up anywhere you want!
Theremin is assembled from common components without the use of esoteric parts that may be unobtainable in the future. We do not sand off part numbers! Some manufacturers will hide the component values they use by obliterating the markings making future repairs impossible!
